I bought the Wii Fit Plus game and balance board when starting a new diet (we already had the Wii game console). I knew the diet would take off pounds, but I wanted to balance it with some movement, not necessarily a hard work-out. I was definitely not committed enough to join a gym or attend regular yoga classes.

This exercise program is completely approachable for all fitness levels. You can do a little or a lot, and just surf around looking for fun activities. I prefer the games over the more serious yoga and strength training, because I get caught up in the competition to better my top scores.

The software counts calories expended per activity. Obviously some burn more than others -- it seems sort of silly to count three calories expended on a ski jump, but oddly it makes you feel like you are doing something positive for yourself. Little by little, I found I gravitated more to the aerobics games, and two months later I'm now moving on to other Wii titles that are more challenging to my improved fitness level.

But I keep coming back to this game, to weigh in, or to do a few hula hoops for fun. My only personal complaint is the little chipmunk voice tells you that "You're overweight!" every time you weigh in. Yet if it weren't for this device and software, I'm sure I would have given up on the weight loss completely a month ago. I have lost weight steadily and healthily using this with my 1200 calorie a day diet, so I would completely recommend it to anyone who feels they've been out of the gym for too long or that exercise will be painful and unpleasant.

Yet, I'm not sure I would recommend the software for the serious fitness junkie. The balance board is great with other Wii titles, though. I use it all the time with EA Sports Active.

My husband, son and I all have a great time with the many different games/challenges. It's also fun to play by yourself, and there are many different work-out options which I think are more fun and more convenient than going to the gym!
